Abstract

|
|
1. Variability of fruit weight, fruit length and diameter, soluble solids, and fruit firmness of `Shinko¢¥ pears (Pyrus pyrifolia Nakai var. culta Nakai) was examined with respect to within and between-trees.
2. All measurements except fruit firmness showed significant variation within and between trees. Estimates of variance components indicated that the greatest variability was among trees.
3. The fruit weight showed the largest variation while fruit firmness and soluble solids were the least in mean values of measurements for within and between trees.
4. With the variance of variation, fruit weight was the widest while the other components were the narrowest.
5. With respect to coefficiency of variation within and between trees, soluble solids and fruit firmness were higher as compared to that of fruit weight, fruit diameter and length.
